Tosca at the COC

Recently, I was asked by the Canadian Opera Company to interpret the legendary jewels originally commissioned by Maria Callas for her Met debut as Tosca.  Callas wore three pieces created by Milanese designer Atelier Marangoni - a necklace, chandelier earrings and tiara.  The pieces were worn during the scene where Tosca fends off Scarpia's advances and kills him in order to save her imprisoned lover.  He wrestles her to the floor and she stabs him with a dinner knife....while wearing a tiara.  You have to love the opera.

Maria Callas bejewelled as Tosca
Callas, Tosca and Marangoni...a tall order to live up to, indeed!  I did my best to honour the original while making this new set distinctly my own....

...with pearl and crystal fringe, of course!!

Click here for more photos and to hear a podcast of my COC interview.  Tosca is running from January 21st to February 25th at The Four Seasons Centre in Toronto...just incase your life needs a smidge more drama.

So...a blog...FINALLY!

Here it is, my first blog post.  Really I'm just trying to figure out how this whole thing works and, mostly, how to make it pretty.  Not quite there yet but I'm working on it.  More soon...
